How I used This System To Develop My One Hour Comedy Special..IN 1 MONTH.
Comedians can’t just snap thier fingers and have a Netflix special, BUT…
Filming my first One Hour Special had been my dream ever since I started stand up in 2010.
And I was tired of waiting.
And I knew I had an amazing hour of comedy to share with people...IN THEORY.
I had a bunch of jokes from over the years, from disconnected 5-10 min sets, and none of the material felt like it fit together.
"What the hell does a Sexy Giraffe, Defund The Police, and Being Celibate for 8 years have to do with each other?"
But I was currently teaching my Stand Up Comedy Curriculum, and I knew I had a system that could get me the answers I needed in a short amount of time. So before I knew it...
I sent out the email to UCB and booked the One Hour Special Taping WITHOUT HAVING THE HOUR WRITTEN! I didn't even have a working outline.
I just had the name of the special that popped in my head when I woke up one morning. And I knew it was right.

The next month was spent stretching myself every which way with side hustles and gigs to cover rent and expenses (The Actor and Writer Strike kicked us in the bootyhole) and I didn't spend anytime on the special since that last email 😩
Now it's Mid January. One Month Left.
One Month Left to either realize my dream, or watch myself BOMB for an Hour in 4K.
So I put my head down, used my system, and went to work.
I reorganized my material into a Three Act Arc, rewrote 50% of my material to fit into the new theme, and wrote 20% of my 70 min set with brand new, un-tested jokes that were performed for the first time on the night of the taping!
Crazy Right? I ONLY HAD ONE NIGHT, AND ONE TAKE, TO GET IT RIGHT.
